Biography:
Salvatore Ferragamo, the elite fashion symbol (Italian shoemaker) born on June 1898 was one of the most renowned footwear designers of the 20th century. He is said to be the all-time favorites of many fashion junkies. He was called as ‘Shoemaker to the stars’ and his stunning shoe designs were always recognized as a visionary.
The name Ferragamo is synonymous with style, variety, elegance, ingenuity, and quality. Salvatore’s death at the age of 62 in 1960 is indeed a great loss to the fashion world. Even though he is no more, his works remain popular and his name lives as an international company, which is now run by his eldest daughter Vara.

In Field Since: Ferragamo started his designing career in the 1920s in California. Initially he started creating specific designs for Hollywood productions. One of his most celebrated pieces is Dorothy's ruby slippers that were worn by Judy Garland, in 1939 for the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Popularity: Salvatore has been given numerous awards for his exceptional contributions to the haute monde world. His popularity soon rose and his name was added to the high couture fashion world for his distinctive style of designing ground breaking shoes. He designed cowboy boots for Cecil B.de Mille, and alluring shoes for topline stars such as ‘Audrey Hepburn’ and ‘Marlene Dietrich’. His other creativities include wedge and the glorious stiletto heel, which was worn by fashion queen ‘Marilyn Monroe’. He won the Neiman Marcus award for the year1947, as well received Footwear News Hall of Fame award in1988. Ferragamo invented the "cage heel" which has got a remarkable influence on shoe design in its first entrée itself.
