Knots used for lacing

There are numerous styles of knots to tie your bootlaces. One of the most common ways is bow, which is done by two half knots tied one on top of the other. A loop is used in the second knot to untie quickly.

The two half knots can be tied in the following two ways,

1. Granny knot

If the loops go up above ankle, it may create pressure at instep and ankle, so you can use granny knot. Granny knot is also called as calf or lubber's knot because it ends up near the calf area of your leg. When your lace is tied up with a granny knot, the two bow ends point up and down. Even though it is slightly insecure than square knot, it provide you sleek look.

2. Square knot

If the lace loops of your boot lie side to side, you can go for a square knot to make removal and wear easy. Your lace will be twisted and left side lace is crossed under right for making a square finish. This square knot functions best against the ground. The strands can be pulled back quickly for snug feel to take off pressure.
