Recent post from ICwales says that Crocs have been issues warning for having made accident-prone shoes. It says thousands of children across Wales have been injured while wearing the flexible clogs from Crocs on escalators. I am not sure whether Crocs should be blamed for these accidents yet the mere construction of the shoes has its own typical hole design on the upper.
A Crocs UK spokesman said, "Consumer satisfaction, including consumer safety, is a top priority for us at Crocs. Escalator safety is an issue we take very seriously.
"Safety experts say several factors can contribute to accidents, including escalator design and maintenance, loose clothing or untied shoelaces, footwear and improper use.
"The most important safety factor is safe riding behaviour. Parents should supervise and assist children."
"Riders of all ages should step on and off escalators and moving walkways with caution, stand only in the middle of the steps, hold on to the handrail, and ensure shoelaces are tied and loose clothing is clear of steps and sides.
"We are committed to helping consumers ride escalators and moving walkways safely by working with escalator manufacturers and building owners and managers to increase safety awareness and educate consumers on steps everyone can take to ride safely."
Generally Crocs were manufactured for casual outdoor purpose like beach or gardening use but the typical popularity of these shoes end up in both positive and negative results. Even Crocs are used by Doctors and nurses for clinical use which is not advisable because sharp objects and harmful elements may get into the holes. I feel Crocs are good for casual wear but careful handling is required (for that matter, any footwear need proper care and fit) as same as stilettos and high heels.
